Coles Bay is a small locality in the state of Tasmania

History Edit

In 1916, the area around Coles Bay and Mount Field became Tasmania's first national park

In 1953, the Post Office along with the town was founded.

Banned Plastic Bags Edit

After a two-year campaign, in April 2003, Coles Bay residents managed to ban plastic bags. They worked with Planet Ark to stop Coles Bay retailers from suing and wasting plastic bags. The person responsible for the campaign is Ben Kearney, he was awarded with Australia's Local Hero in 2005.

Events Edit

  • Australian Three Peaks Race: It is a continuous sailing and running that is held each Easter. During this time Coles Bay becomes one of three stops for this race. The other locations are Beauty Point and Hobart, during this race the competitors must scale three mountains, one of which is Mount Freycinet.
